This website is to provide key financial and governance information to all parishioners, and support information about our community.

This accessibility statement applies to pages within our website.

This website is run by Carrington Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

change colours, contrast levels and fonts
zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
listen to most of the website using a screen reader (NaturalReader)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

Dyslexia support on many browser is provided by the browser owners that can be used on our website, here is a few common browser supports

Links to external files were not tested for dyslexia support

Visual impairment, support is provided through browser specific text to speech add-in or purchased products such a Nuance Dragon. the website text has been tested with NaturalReader, all text can be read and images contain Alt text. Site Contrast information can be found in the testing report below.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

Text accessibility

- - Extremely limited font and colour control in Google Themes
  - No size control (other than picking title/heading etc). But Crtl and '+' will allow a user to zoom in; Ctrl and '-' will allow a user to zoom out
  - Cannot bold or italicise titles, headings or subheadings
  - No flow or vertical height control
  - Images cannot exist in a text box

Carrington Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to: Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

accessibility problems with Image and with overlaid text
Some minor contrast issues with Google defined objects
Some redundant links featured in the menu, unable to modify these as these are auto created by Googles sites.

Disproportionate burden

Contrast

As we have used Google Sites to build our website the Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) may extend over 12 months, until Google allow for text colour change in the the templates they provide.

Navigation and accessing information

Device orientation from horizontal to vertical will fit the content onto the screen, but will require the user to scroll further down each page.

Testing Report

Magnification- pages can be magnified up to 250% before the user would have to scroll across
Key-board only navigation- cannot tab across the menu bar and arrow down to sub-menus, the arrow key only works to scroll down the page
Hyperlink text are underlined with meaningful and unique titles,
Navigation by headings- All navigation to main pages, subpages and links to external documents and site all work correctly
High Contrast Plug in was tested on all page, the most common results were:
- Increased Contrast: Strong text visibility | good contrast with header and banner | images acceptable | Footer contrast is acceptable
- Greyscale: Strong text visibility | good contrast with header and banner | images acceptable | Footer contrast low
- Inverted Colour: Strong text, good contrast with header and banner |images acceptable | Footer contrast is high
- Inverted Greyscale: Strong text visibility |good contrast with header and banner | images acceptable | Footer contrast is high
- Yellow on Black: Strong text visibility |good contrast with header and banner | images acceptable | Footer contrast low
The site was then analysed using the WAVE- web accessibility evaluation tool https://wave.webaim.org/
- 1. - Contrast ratio is 8.95:1 on main areas, Button and text overlaid in yellow bands has a ratio of 11.85:1. Therefore contract levels throughout the site a mostly above the required contrast, with the exception on a few header images.
    - Alt text on all images are present.
    - There is one link which is redundant, but is an inbuilt feature of Google Site, therefore can't be changed
    - Structural elements for all headers has passed and the menu bar is an unordered list, which is normal for most websites
    - All links to other documents can be identified and work
Text-to-speech plug in works mostly throughout the website with Natural Reader, the occasional header or button was missed.
Downloadable documents- - Any of the parish council documents are in PDF, Google Docs, Google Sheets. All a linked as read only from the parish council web service. Where practical all documents will be in a HTML format, such as those found on the policy page
